First of all, I congratulate you all! The people of Azerbaijan, who accepted Islam, have been celebrating the Feast of Sacrifice in special splendor since the time of the Atabays and the Seljuks. Italian traveler Pedro de Vall, who lived in the Safavid Empire from 1617 to 1622, writes: "Three days before the festival, a she-camel decorated with violets and other flowers, even greenery, leaves and pine branches, is paraded through the city, and drums, flutes and trumpets are played for her. The Muslim cleric sometimes recites poems and says religious words. The meat of the animal was distributed among the townspeople and the surrounding neighborhoods".
In 1593, Russian scribes who met Shah I the Great Abbas wrote: "The king sits on his horse and prays and then signals to the governor of the city. The governor on horseback takes the spear, puts it on the ground next to the camel and stands at a distance. The emperor sacrifices".
Dr. Fourier, who met with Nasreddin Shah Qajar, writes: "Every devout Muslim must slaughter at least one chicken. The Ottoman sultan sacrifices a sheep with his own hands in Istanbul, but in Tehran Shahanshah slaughters a camel to keep up with the Ottoman sultan. He then entrusts him to a person who wears luxurious clothes and sits on a decorated horse like himself".
