28% isnt very much when they have less than 1% of the search market share

This will only encourage others to do the same.

If you haven’t already made the switch, there are some guides here to help you:

      EDIT:
If you want a cheat sheet for Search
      – Kagi: Ad-free and better experience than Google, but it is paid
      – Ecosia: Similar experience and supports a good cause
      – Qwant: Building independent search results, backed by the EU
      – DuckDuckGo & Startpage: Privacy-focused search

The above link helps more than just search and goes into more detail & options for those interested

It’s better to use private and decentralized alternatives rather than Google.

    4. I don’t love DDG, but Google has become absolute dog shit, so it is my default for the time being. Would love more competition in the search space, but I’m not holding my breath.

    5. I already learned to ignore and scroll past the ads, I can do the same with the AI stuff

    6. Google is damn near unusable. I can search using the exact phrase of a YouTube video (a video so unique that it’s the only one) and Google will bury it on like Page 3 of results.

    7. duckduckgo is pretty good compared to google, i switched years ago and it’s been a much better experience.

I use Bing for off the cuff searches, it’s usually a hair worse than google but a lot of basic queries don’t need finesse, and every 20 days or so I earn a $5 Amazon gift card.

Google has been becoming increasingly trash rather than the “OK I’ll re-search it in Google to get a better result” alternative.

All the top results are paid review sites or AI synthesized content.

Sometimes I’ll stick “reddit” on the end of a search, but I HAVE NO IDEA WHY GOOGLE GOT RID OF THE “DISCUSSIONS” TAB which ACTUALLY GAVE FORUM POST RESULTS. It was the best way to get “human discussion” on something rather than some corporate ad or Amazon review.

DDG also let’s you watch YouTube videos with no ads if you watch through Duck player

Signed up that day, a big adjustment but Hell a little inconvenience to stand up to the technocracy is the least I can do.

Not only is Google AI often wrong, it pushes you to other crap like ad filled you tube videos! No thanks.

Just switched my default browser and I’m liking it a lot. Being able to turn off AI features helps so much

Duck duck go search results are hit or miss for me. Sometimes I’ll put in a product I want to look at and it won’t even bring up the manufacturer or maker of the product. It’s really weird.

    14. Upbeat_Influence2350 on

Now if only DDG would remember that I turned off their AI results.

    15. strictlyphotonic on

Yup – I changed the default search engine on all my browsers to DDG today. I wish it was better than it is, but glad it’s better than Google.

    16. DoctorQuarex on

I checked every browser I have on every computer and phone and literally in some cases just selected the first non-Google thing in the dropdown menu

I would rather not find what I am looking for than contribute directly to the downfall of humanity

    17. Switch over to DDG two weeks ago and its such a laid back experience that whatever the hell google cooked themselves into.

    18. using firefox whit duckduck the moment they announce the ia search change, fuck that

    19. I hope DDG takes note.

They’ve had some AI stuff lately I don’t love, but at least they make it optional.

    20. Our org is concerned about outside AI and has stated they’ll be blocking search engines unless they’ve got an AI free mode.

    21. Altruistic-Bus-1289 on

Duck duck go unfortunately has AI summaries too. Yo can turn them off, but they do seem to turn back on by themselves.

    22. CptTurnersOpticNerve on

It’s astounding to me that Google, a company that made its bones via searching the Internet and the world (maps) now wants to obfuscate all the results.

    23. Hey, don’t look at me. I’ve always preferred DuckDuckGo. Whenever I get a new computer, one of the first things I do (after downloading my preferred web browsers) is make DuckDuckGo my default search engine.

    24. dasbtaewntawneta on

i went on a journey trying to find a single search engine that doesn’t have AI, even one you can turn off, i want to to use a search engine by a company that doesn’t even think to include an ai.

fuck duckduckgo, fuck kagi, fuck brave search, fuck ecosia, fuck mojeek, fuck qwant, all have some bullshit ai added somewhere.

since they all use the same indexes anyway i settled on SearXNG

    25. IzzetChronarch on

You can disable the shit stain AI mode. I fucking hated it and I hope whomever created it nothing good happens to them in their life.
