Sweden set to supply Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine

Sweden is preparing to transfer Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine. The Swedish government may announce the delivery of several older-model Gripen aircraft to Kyiv, newspaper Aftonbladet reports.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has scheduled a press conference focused on international aviation cooperation, fueling speculation about the planned military support package.

According to the report, the aircraft under consideration are JAS 39 Gripen C/D fighter jets. The exact number of planes to be supplied has not yet been disclosed.

Aftonbladet also reported that negotiations could begin on the potential sale of the more advanced JAS 39E fighter aircraft to Ukraine.

The newspaper added that financing for a possible future deal involving the newer jets could be provided through an EU-backed loan mechanism.
