EFTA Surveillance Authority approves Norway’s and Iceland’s measures for free allocation of greenhouse gas emission allowances – EU Law Live

    The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) has approved the National Implementation Measures (NIMs) submitted by Iceland and Norway for the free allocation of greenhouse gas emission allowances under the European Emissions Trading System (ETS) for the 2026-2030 period.

    The approved NIMs identify stationary installations eligible to receive free emission allowances during the second allocation period of phase four of the ETS, which spans from 2021 to 2030. ESA said the measures submitted by both countries comply with the relevant European Economic Area (EEA) rules and confirmed that the listed installations qualify for free allocations between 2026 and 2030.
