South Korea was invited to attend the Group of Seven’s(G7) meeting of digital ministers for the second year in a row as a country of major cooperation in the digital and artificial intelligence(AI) sector.
According to Seoul’s Ministry of Science and ICT, Second Vice Minister Ryu Je-myung attended the digital ministers’ meeting in Paris on Friday that covered AI safety, application by small- to mid-sized firms, digital carbon neutrality and online protection of minors.
Ryu introduced South Korea’s AI-related policies as he emphasized the need to simultaneously make progress in both innovation and confidence in an era of digital and AI transition.
The vice minister shared Seoul’s policies on AI one-stop voucher program for small- to mid-sized businesses, to foster experts in AI transition, and support for AI data centers.
He also discussed the new AI Basic Act, which aims to establish a national governance framework for the technology, and efforts toward low-powered data centers.
