SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (KOLO) – Lake Tahoe ospreys can be seen around Emerald Bay State Park, D.L. Bliss State Park, and around the Truckee River, according to a recent Sierra State Parks Foundation Facebook post.
“Seeing them is a great sign, as they are vital indicators of the lake’s ecological health!” according to the parks foundation.
Ospreys are iconic summer raptors known for diving into the water to hunt fish.
The raptors are often confused with Bald Eagles, which also live in the basin, officials said.
Ospreys are smaller and have a dark brown “bandit mask” stripe through their eyes.
