I am surprised Hindi or Farci was not included. I know so many people who speak at least one of those languages.

Muni bus and train in the Bay (SF) has four languages in their announcement and broadcast:
English, Spanish, Cantonese and Tagalog. They are more common there.

English is really the most spoken language in all of the Bay Area? I would have thought there’d be pockets where it was number 2.

I’m having a hard time believing these maps. Spanish is probably the second most spoken language in both Alameda and Santa Clara counties.
The Chinese population gets split between Cantonese and Mandarin which lowers the numbers of each language. And there are tons of Spanish speakers in these counties. In Alameda County, there are Spanish speakers everywhere. In Oakland, San Leandro, Hayward, Castro Valley, Newark, Livermore. Even in Fremont which he heavily Indian and Chinese, Spanish speakers come out of the woodwork in neighborhoods like Cabrillo and Niles.
There are even more Spanish speakers in Santa Clara County. San Jose alone is 35 percent Latino. It is also around 35 percent Asian but most of it is Vietnamese and Indian.

I’m surprised there isn’t more Arabic or Amharic around Oakland

I’m surprised there’s not any Indian languages making the list given Silicon Valley has a huge Indian tech population

This map isn’t granular enough if it’s on the county level. I find it interesting that Cantonese only shows up in counties where it’s more prevalent than Mandarin

Not a single indigenous language 😢

I’m surprised Cantonese is still that high anywhere.
