Bragg Creek’s Dylan Holloway earned Player-of-the-Game honours with a goal and an assist, but Canada fell 4-2 to Finland in the semifinals of the IIHF World Championship on Saturday in Zurich, Switzerland.
Canada went on to lose 3-2 in overtime to Norway in Sunday’s bronze-medal game. Finland advanced to face host Switzerland in the championship final this afternoon.
Holloway paced the Canadian offence with a goal and an assist as Canada outshot Finland 29-21.

Robert Thomas opened the scoring for Canada just over eight minutes into the first period, giving the Canadians an early lead.
Finland answered with four consecutive goals before Holloway narrowed the deficit, but Canada could not complete the comeback.
Macklin Celebrini added an assist for Canada and logged a team-high 21 minutes 56 seconds of ice time. Denton Mateychuk and Dylan DeMelo also recorded assists.
Goaltender Jet Greaves stopped 17 shots in the loss.
Following the semifinal, Celebrini, Greaves and Sidney Crosby were named Canada’s three best players of the tournament.
First appearance for Canada at IIHF World Cup
In 10 games, Holloway scored four goals, added two assists, and served one two-minute minor penalty.
It was his first appearance for Canada in the IIHF Men’s World Hockey Championship after the St. Louis Blues failed to make the NHL post-season.
His previous international experience includes a gold medal with Canada at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and a silver medal at the 2021 IIHF U-20 World Junior Championship.
