Labor Minister Kim Young-hoon has visited the site of the deadly explosion at the Hanwha Aerospace plant in the central city of Daejeon and ordered a thorough investigation.
On Monday Kim met with senior labor officials who had been dispatched to the scene after the explosion and instructed them to conduct a full investigation to determine what caused the accident, which claimed five lives.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor said it has formed a dedicated team of more than 20 investigators.
The ministry vowed to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the blast through on-site inspections and find out whether the company complied with workplace safety obligations under relevant laws, including the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
The ministry added that the team will work with prosecutors and other agencies to analyze the circumstances of the accident and identify those responsible.
Labor authorities also ordered operations at the factory to be suspended immediately after the explosion.
