    1. Any one of those countries is welcome to take the US ambassador to Canada. That guy’s a fucking asshole.

Look up who the ambassador to France is and how he hired a prostitute to sleep with his sister’s husband, video taped it, and sent it to her. That’s just how republican families operate I guess.

So much winning! Trump was such a great choice for President because the world respects us so much more now! /s

Yep, it’s a bit of a shit show. Generally speaking many ambassador’s are political favors by presidents for loyalty/campaign funding that is a very mixed bag of success.

The “big” countries are usually but not always at least some degree of State Dept or similar SME. But now we are just at the meh…stage.

What is the usual occupancy rates?

I find it extremely unlikely we have full blown ambassadors for all nations all the time, that’d be insanely expensive

Edit: Why is this being downvoted? It’s a question

And Republicans in Congress don’t give a shit. Vote OUT the Republicans

Australian here: no worries. The more we can avoid the stupid ire of a mercurial leader, the better. If they’ve got someone on the ground, they’re more likely to remember that we exist and, I don’t know, threaten to bomb our kangaroos because they aren’t white.

    8. Does anyone want to be the US Ambassador to Haiti? How about Syria? Does anyone want to be the Designated Target for a few hundred terrorist groups? Pass the Foreign Service Exam, and these plum assignments could be yours in a dozen years or so.

The amount of soft power Trump destroyed in just 2 years is incalculable.

      Is…that a bad thing?

Like, it’s not the age of sail anymore. We don’t need to have representatives in every country at any given time. I’m sure if the Australians need to talk to the U.S. government, they can pick up a phone.

    11. Africa makes sense, saying this as an african. But brazil not having one is odd considering it’s relevance in South America.

The trump nominated ambassador to Malaysia is a lesser known right wing influencer named Nick Adam. He’s just the standard template right wing grifter who’s anti immigration (despite him being an immigrant from Australia), and promotes traditional family values (despite being unmarried at age 40).

Most controversially of all is that he is very pro Israel so much so that he bragged that he got a waitress fired for wearing a Palestinian flag pin. He would be an endless source of controversy in Malaysia where the population is very pro Palestinian. He’ll treat it as an all expense paid vacation while creating endless content for his podcast nobody watches. Thank God the senate did not confirm him

Here in Australia… we’re quite happy without one frankly… when/if USA ever gets it’s shit together again and becomes normal… then we can discuss them sending someone rational & reasonable… to presumably represent a rational & reasonable Governement and nation. Right now having a USA ambassador is a blessing IMO.

I asked on a different version of this map but can a counsellor or minister of a mission be promoted into the ambassadorship or is it entirely unique

Like can the…….say consular general for Japan be promoted to the ambassadorship if the ambassador for Japan steps down

    15. Keep it that way, the less Donald Dump appointed americans worldwide, the better the world is.

I can’t find the video now, but the US Ambassador to Poland under Biden, Mark Brzezinski, gave a talk explaining how his job was pushing US business interests abroad and how he didn’t understand why no other country used their Ambassador for that role.

    17. Strangely many of these countries are actually strategically important to the US – South Korea, Indonesia, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Brazil, …

I get it for not prioritizing smaller countries but the above countries are huge countries!

    18. GreenDemonSquid on

A lot of these countries do have people acting as ambassadors known as Chargé d’affaires. They manage a lot of the important work that ambassadors usually do until a proper one is established so it isn’t as bad as some people might think.

Heck, given the current controversial American government some people might see that as an improvement considering a good portion of those people are long time diplomatic staff.

    19. How is Greenland in need of an Ambasitor when Denmark, which is EU, has one?

    20. Considering the moron that Is assigned to Canada they’re better off without one.

    21. Kermit-T-Hermit on

You can have the danish one. He is a fuckwit and noone likes him. Actually we have gone from one of the US’s biggest and most reliable ally to very close to cut all possible ties.

The public have turned massively anti american when it comes to politics.

Clealy, strong international relations with Burkina Faso is more important than Germany, Australia, and Ukraine

More than half of the World’s countries don’t have to deal with a meddling and bullying MAGA sycophant.

    24. ZootOfCastleAnthrax on

That’s amazing, considering Trump hands out ambassadorships to his cronies like candy.
