The US Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed waving goodbye to its 2024 climate-related disclosure rules, saying the requirements should be withdrawn in full before taking effect.

    The proposal, announced on May 29, would remove amendments to the Securities Act and Exchange Act that would have required registrants to include climate-related information in registration statements and annual reports. The SEC said the rules covered disclosures on greenhouse gas emissions, climate-related risk management, financial statement effects of severe weather events, internal carbon pricing and board oversight of climate-related risks.
