Hi everyone! I'm a reporter with The LA Local working on a story about Korean soccer, identity and the Korean diaspora ahead of the World Cup.

I'm looking to talk to Korean Americans in the Los Angeles area who root for the Korean national team — whether you're fully Korean, mixed, adopted, an immigrant, second- or third-generation, a third-culture kid, or however you identify.

I'd especially love to hear from anyone who remembers watching South Korea's 2002 World Cup run in Koreatown. I'd love to hear what you remember and what that moment meant to you.

If you're open to chatting, feel free to DM me or leave a comment. Thanks!

Any Korean Americans here remember watching the 2002 World Cup in Koreatown? (Reporter looking to chat)

Not LA but Flushing, Queens in NYC. I must have been like 12 years old. Good times…. I wonder if my dad still has the red devils shirt somewhere

    2. more memorable for me was being in koreatown for the 2018 world cup.. the moment korea best Germany, the collective hurrah of koreans and Mexicans rejoicing in the victory was such a beautiful sight. Every mexican person loved every korean that day and it was beautiful

    3. I’m a Korean-American from NYC but I was living in Korea at that time. I was only a kid but what a time it was to be in Seoul during that time.

Omg, I remember screaming my lungs out at an indoor mall in town during the knockout stages. Meant a huge amount to me and a truly pivotal moment in my identity. Shoot me a message if you want to chat.
