Celebrated internationally, World Boating Day is a global initiative, this year spanning 28 countries and 143 events worldwide, with Australia standing out as one of its most active participating nations. The initiative opens the boating industry to the public, highlighting the people, experiences and careers that shape life on the water.
Across the country, yacht clubs and boating organisations opened their doors to the public through sailing and on-water experiences. Balmain Sailing Club welcomed participants on Sydney Harbour for social racing, while East Fremantle Yacht Club hosted a Try Sailing Day introducing newcomers to the sport in a relaxed, accessible format.

Accessibility and shared boating were central themes, with Boatlife Boat Club, Freedom Boat Club and GoBoat Gold Coast offering open days and short on-water experiences designed to make boating more approachable, flexible and family-friendly. In the Whitsundays, Hamilton Island hosted a Bareboating Showcase highlighting self-guided yacht holidays in one of Australia’s most iconic cruising destinations.

Community and networking also featured strongly, including the Boat Princess Women in Boating event, which brought together women from across the marine industry for an informal afternoon of connection and exchange.
Together, the Australian programme reflected the diversity of the country’s maritime sector, from luxury yacht building and industry innovation to grassroots sailing, community engagement and accessible boating experiences.
World Boating Day 2026 was celebrated on 23 May, with events taking place throughout the week of 18–24 May.
