As Alexandria prepares to host the Croatian National Soccer Team during its World Cup training stay in the region, Old Town Alexandria businesses are coming together for Shop the Checkers Boutique Week, a community-wide activation celebrating Croatia’s iconic red-and-white checkerboard crest while showcasing the city’s vibrant small business community.
From June 14-28 participating boutiques and specialty retailers will transform storefronts and create unique experiences inspired by Croatian culture, hospitality, and the excitement surrounding the team’s arrival and will display special Croatian flags, creating a walkable and welcoming shopping experience throughout the district.
Participating businesses throughout Old Town Alexandria are embracing the spirit of Croatia through creative storefront displays, themed promotions, family-friendly activities, culinary experiences, and special shopping events. Visitors can expect everything from red-and-white window installations and Croatia-inspired décor to Sip & Shops, match-day discounts, soccer-themed activities, and Adriatic-inspired food and flavor experiences.
Boutiques, beauty destinations, specialty retailers, and lifestyle businesses will offer unique ways for guests to celebrate while exploring Alexandria’s vibrant small business community. Together, the activities will transform portions of Old Town into a festive and welcoming destination as the city hosts the Croatian National Soccer Team during its World Cup training stay.
