The ruling Democratic Party(DP) has assessed that exit poll results for the June 3 local elections have confirmed public sentiment is supportive of President Lee Jae Myung’s efforts for government stability.
Rep. Lee Yeon-hee, who heads the situation room and strategy division of the DP’s election committee, made the statement on Wednesday.
Lee said a close contest is underway in the Gyeongsang region, particularly in the city of Daegu, expressing hope that DP candidate Kim Boo-kyum will emerge as the winner.
The joint KBS-MBC-SBS exit poll showed Kim in a tight race against Choo Kyung-ho of the main opposition People Power Party.
Kim was narrowly behind at 49-point-one percent of the votes against Choo’s 49-point-nine percent within the margin of error.
The estimated margin of error is between plus or minus one-point-seven percentage points and plus or minus four-point-one percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
Meanwhile, Lee urged the National Election Commission to swiftly come to a solution regarding a shortage of ballot papers at several polling stations in Seoul’s Songpa District.
