3rd June 0226, 1pm local time Luxembourg. 1st day of holiday.
My girlfriend (Asian, idk if it matters whether this shopowner hates everyone generally or was racist) visited this shop across the Archeological Museum thinking of buying souvenirs.
She was holding a postcard that costs about 50 cents in her hand. As she was reading a sign that explained “items under 10 euros must be purchased with cash only”,
the shopwoman came over and told her “yes, only cash, if not you can get more postcards. and if you don’t have the money, (snatches the postcard out of hand) you can give me this and i’ll put it back” before my girlfriend could even say anything
are there any like local traditions or something when doing visiting shops here? or is this lady a specific case of sour?

That woman is a cunt in general, yeah. I once went inside to buy a water bottle, with my smartphone in my hand like 80% of young people these days, and she started yelling from the counter at me “no phone call! outside!” to me, meanwhile I was like ??? I just wanted a water bottle, wtf. My phone wasn’t even on, let alone on a phone call. I said nothing and left. Truly bizzare.
Experience the Luxembourgish charm 🖕
Sounds like a must see place!
Never been there, need to check it out now lol
Note: this is not aimed at u/Decision_Burner but just to provide some context:
So… this butteck actually has a lot of history to it (so does the street its in) but after covid everything got torpedoed by a series of 1* Google maps reviews and now you have people specifically showing up there looking to “experience the worst shop in Luxembourg”
I spoke to the owner once. Her 1* rating has turned the shop into some sort of performance/reason for people to seek controversy. It leave her very stressed and I guess, after years of such nonsense, she is now genuinely fed up by almost anyone walking through the door
What exacerbates this is the fact that she has almost no digital awareness so although I explained to her how to “claim” her Google business listing -> ask Google to temporarily freeze reviews (this was 2 years ago already), she has never gone through with it and even now this business listing can just be hijacked by any stranger standing in front of the shop while connected to a Luxembourgish phone operator
It’s really an unfortunate case of the digital world completely overwhelming a small bsuiness that’s stuck in the past
PS: there was a big group of Asian tourists being led to that shop on a group tour yesterday in the evening. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. The shop (and its owner) are not tourist attractions but have inadvertedly become one…
It would seem from the reviews that the key to winning her over is asking her about the Peckvillchen…
This is actually the best place to go on the evening before Nationalfeierdaach (22.06), there you can buy Crémant by the bottle, beer by the sixpack, and Drëppen for very cheap compared to all the other places around town.
Yes, the lady is rude, but for cheap booze you tolerate her!
This is like this since the 90s at least. I guess I need to check if it is still the same family that operates the shop.
