The first map shows the 38 countries that allow same-sex partners to marry, affirming their right to love and form a family.
However, the majority of countries don’t recognize same-sex marriage, or outright ban it.
The second map shows that same-sex relationships are legal in many countries, but not everywhere.
In some countries, same-sex relationships are against the law, and can be punished with prison or even death.
The third map shows the 38 countries that allow same-sex partners to adopt a child together.
This means that most countries do not allow LGBT+ people to adopt and both be recognized as parents.

I am disappointed in my African people
French Guiana is part of France. So it has the same laws for LGBT+ people that Mainland France.
It should be in blue for everything.
Calling out Thailand legalising it in 2024 is cool, but see that little Taiwan there did it in 2019, props to them too! First one in Asia.
As a rule of thumb, don’t have gay sex along the tropic of cancer.
But why do they need pride parades?!? Just shoving it in our faces all the time. They’ve never been unfairly prosecuted disproportionately. There’s nothing they experience any differently than the rest of us in the world and policy changes in their favour never need to be celebrated especially in such a happy and inclusive manner.
/s, obviously but you never know these days unfortunately.
There is one country in the Middle East where they wont preform Gay weddings, for religious reasons, BUT they will recognize the legality of them. It’s also the only country in the region where homosexuals wont be persecuted or killed for their sexuality.
No data for Greenland? I don’t think whoever made this map tried very hard. Legal unions have been since 1996, marriages since 2016.
Just stay away from Africa in general part 5.
As a gay man, I have resigned myself to a life without finding a partner. I live in one of the orange countries. The sad part is: I used to live in one of the blue countries but had to return back to my home country.
Being a gay immigrant these days is like “pick your poison” – either deal with anti-immigrant backlash in your host country or deal with anti-gay backlash in your home country.
Italy needs more heat about their anti-gay policies
Public same-sex relationships are criminalised in Russia
One blue dot. I see it’s beautiful.
I know for a fact that plenty of people in countries where same sex acts are crimialized don’t believe that there are many gay people in those countries. I’ve heard first hand how they consider gay people propaganda from the west.
Hopefully, progress on criminalization would continue, and people can become more open, busting this myth once and for all.
There is a pattern to all these homophobic countries.
They’re all, without exception, conservative.
Why say LGBT+ when the data only refers to gay people, and doesn’t even mention trans, intersex or asexual people?
I just find it odd that LGBT+ is just used as a synonym for gay, when there’s lots of straight people in the LGBT+ as well.
But remember, America has taken away all LGBT rights! /s
Most of the civilized world says the US and Europe are wrong on this topic and need to progress.
In Mongolia they actually had to explicitly make gay marriage illegal (in 1992), since their third person singular pronoun (тэр) isn’t gendered.
I Was specifically told the USA was genociding lgbt people? Are people lying?
I think you need to break down the legality of same-sex action into gay / lesbian because lots of Muslim (red) countries legally define sex as involving male genitalia. This means afaik under their strict laws, two women definitionally can’t have sex, and thus, while not socially accepted, I think it’s legal.
Lithuanian constitutional court declared that same sax marriages are a right. So they can be declared with separate court ruling. No law is released for universal use.
Wild seeing how much of the map is still grey, thought we were further along than this honestly.
Not a good look for Italy.
Useless to do data about LGBT rights around the world and not have a single mention of the T nor anything about failing rights in the Western world.
