Мученик Василиск

**What the Church remembers on June 4, 2026**

Basilisk lived in the 4th century. He was the nephew of Theodore the Recruit. During that time, there were persecutions against Christians under Emperor Maximian Galerius.

Basilisk was gifted with the ability to heal. This amazed both his followers and the pagans who hated him. It led to him being imprisoned. While in prison, the Lord appeared to him in a dream, predicting his imminent martyrdom and promising assistance.

Basilisk believed the prophecy and asked to be released to say goodbye to his family. Even the jailers respected Basilisk so much that they allowed him to leave the dungeon temporarily. However, when the governor learned of this decision, he became furious. He severely punished the guards and sent soldiers after Basilisk, but they found him already returning to prison. He was put in copper boots with nails inside.

When the squad stopped to rest, Basilisk, who was suffering not only from pain but also from thirst, heard a voice: “Do not be afraid, I am with you.” After that, the ground shook, and a spring gushed forth from a rock nearby. The guards were frightened and released the saint. Local residents began to come to the spring where Basilisk sat. He healed them through prayer. But eventually, Basilisk returned to the city and, entering Comana, appeared before the governor.

When they all entered the pagan temple, fire descended from heaven upon the saint, burning the altar and shattering the idols. The enraged governor ordered that the saint’s head be cut off and then thrown into the river. Christians managed to ransom his body and bury it secretly. Later, a temple was built at that place in honor of the martyr Basilisk.
