The 23-year-old was arrested today (Wednesday) by officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland‘s International Policing Unit acting on a Lithuanian extradition warrant.

Police forced entry to the property and located the woman concealed inside a wardrobe despite what officers described as her efforts to evade capture.

The woman is wanted by authorities in Lithuania in connection with serious sexual offences committed against a child in the Mazeikiai area. She was detained and is due to appear before Laganside Extradition Court on Thursday.

Sergeant Davey, from the PSNI‘s International Policing Unit, said the arrest demonstrated the force’s commitment to pursuing fugitives wanted for serious crimes across Europe.

“Despite this fugitive’s best efforts to hide and avoid the consequences of her actions she was today apprehended,” he said.

He added that the arrest reflected the PSNI’s determination to pursue offenders and support victims.

Superintendent Marty Reid, Head of the PSNI Extradition Unit, said the force remained committed to tracking down fugitives and working alongside European law enforcement agencies.

He said the PSNI was increasingly engaged with the UK Joint International Crime Centre, Interpol and Europol to help deliver justice for victims both in Northern Ireland and abroad.
