NORMANDY (WOWT) – Today marks 82 years since the invasion of Normandy, known as D-Day.
Five naval assault divisions went on the attack, landing on Utah Beach, Omaha Beach and several others.
The Higgins boat, designed by Nebraska native Andrew Jackson Higgins, gave the military the ability to transport the heroes on D-Day and in other battles.
General Dwight D. Eisenhower once credited Higgins as “the man who won the war for us.”
