After Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković announced his imperialist aspirations, territorial and other claims, he should have been denied hospitality and given a deadline to leave the territory of Montenegro, said the Vice President of the Democratic People’s Party (DNP), Milun Zogović, today.
“In order for Montenegro to move forward, it is necessary to shed light on the role of those who have ruled uncontrollably over the last three decades. This is an indispensable condition if we want to break with bad practices as a lesson to all those who gain the trust of the people to hold high state positions,” Zogović stressed in a statement.
He added that former Prime Minister and President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović was deeply mistaken if he thought that the citizens of Montenegro had been affected by collective amnesia.
“The fact that institutions have shown incompetence and have not reviewed his role in the criminalization and plunder of Montenegro over the past three decades in no way indicates innocence, purity or sinlessness. The attempt to re-impose himself on the public stage as the guru of independent Montenegro created in 2006 is a cheap show for those who would trade centuries of the glorious history of traditional Montenegro for two decades of the disastrous ideological legacy of Đukanović’s private state,” Zogović said.
He said that it is common knowledge that Plenković is a close friend of Đukanović, and that the question arises whether they together coordinated Plenković’s imperialist platform for the summit in Tivat.
“I believe that the experienced Đukanović could best teach him how something can be stolen from the state of Montenegro. After Plenković announced his imperialist aspirations, territorial and other claims, he should have been denied hospitality and given a deadline to leave the territory of Montenegro. This would preserve the state dignity of an independent and sovereign Montenegro,” said Zogović.
He said that after that, “at the summit, we should have asked our friends from Brussels to stop further racketeering and conditioning of Montenegro that our neighbors from Zagreb are continuously inflicting on us.”
“By doing so, we would show that we are preserving our dignity, and give our friends from Brussels the opportunity to protect us, as the first future member of the European Union, from unhealthy neighborly aspirations to what is ours. This leaves the bitter impression that, due to the lack of an adequate reaction, Plenković has legalized his demands in front of everyone,” Zogović said.
On June 5, Plenković told reporters in Tivat, ahead of the EU-Western Balkans Summit, that Montenegro had made the most progress in negotiations with the EU and that he therefore had expectations regarding open issues between the two countries.
He reiterated that Croatia’s position here is clearly mapped out and there are preconditions that, if met, will lead to further progress in Chapter 31, Chapter 23 (Judiciary and Fundamental Rights) and Chapter 24 (Justice, Freedom and Security).
Croatia blocked Montenegro from closing Chapter 31 (Foreign, Security and Defense Policy), demanding the resolution of several open issues.
Plenković said that the topic of compensation for Croatian camp inmates in Morinje is one of the key issues, and another is to continue work on finding the 14 missing persons, “who are still being treated as such, from the Homeland War.”
“The third is that Montenegro should continue to prosecute war criminals, the fourth is to resolve the property rights issues of Croatian families here, who have been left without their property. This process is going quite slowly,” he said.
He emphasized that they “clearly marked the position of the board in Morinj.”
He also said that the issue of the name of the swimming pool in Kotor, the return of the training ship “Jadran” should be resolved, and that “the talks, which have been ongoing for many years, regarding the border should finally be launched.”
