President Lee Jae Myung and the heads of the government’s branches will pursue electoral reform to regain public trust.

Senior presidential secretary for public relations and communication Lee Kyu-yeon said the decision was reached during a meeting on ballot shortages that disrupted the June 3 local elections.

The meeting included the president, National Assembly Speaker Cho Jeong-sik, Supreme Court Chief Justice Jo Hee-de, Constitutional Court President Kim Sang-hwan and Prime Minister Kim Min-seok.

The presidential secretary said Lee had urged participants to take people’s concerns and complaints about the situation seriously and to assume responsibilities for overcoming the latest crisis in the constitutional order.

The president also expressed his gratitude to young adults who have denounced violations of their right to vote and mismanagement of the elections.
