The National Election Commission(NEC) has raised the tally of voting centers that ran out of ballots during the June 3 local elections from the previously reported 50 to 91.

In a press release on Monday, the NEC said following Friday’s announcement that placed the number of affected voting centers at 50, it conducted an inspection and found that a total of 91 locations were short of ballots and had used additional ones sent from the election watchdog.

The locations include 42 in Seoul, 23 in Gyeonggi Province, eleven in Incheon, four in Daegu, three in Busan, two each in Ulsan, South Jeolla Province, and South Gyeongsang Province, and one each in North Chungcheong Province and North Jeolla Province.

The election watchdog had sent additional ballots to 140 out of 14-thousand-288 voting centers nationwide.

Out of the 91 locations that ran short on ballots, 26 had to temporarily stop voting, up from the previously announced 22.

The NEC, meanwhile, has formed a committee consisting of six people from outside the watchdog to investigate what caused the shortages and hold to account those found responsible starting Wednesday until June 19.
