At the “Korea-Italy Business Roundtable” event held on the occasion of President Lee Jae Myung’s state visit to Italy, representative businessmen from the two countries announced that they would take the lead in promoting cooperation between the two countries.

Kim Jung-soo, chairman of Samyang Foods, widely known as Buldak Stir-fried Noodles, mentioned the need for joint research and development to improve the taste and quality of Korean instant noodles and Italian pasta.
Moon Jae-young, president of HD Hyundai Construction Machinery, expressed his gratitude for the quick resolution of the ultra-depreciation system and compared the Italian government’s speed of solving the problem to Ferrari. The ultra-depreciation system is a system that reduces the corporate tax burden by recognizing a higher amount than the actual purchase price when a company introduces new facilities. Initially, only EU-made (産) company products were eligible for benefits, but they were expanded to Korean companies.

Ferrari is Italy’s leading global supercar manufacturer. A Cheong Wa Dae official said Ferrari Chairman John Elkann is a 27-year-old friend of Chairman Lee Jae-yong, and that Chairman Lee has been an outside director of Ferrari in the past.
After the event, President Lee held a “post-meeting” with Korean businessmen on the spot to express his gratitude for their participation. While asking businessmen for active policy suggestions, he also asked them to “directly make suggestions that are difficult for individual ministries to deal with to the President’s Policy Office.”
