Yoon Hye-on, new chair of the Korea Foundation for Women in Science and Technology. Provided by the Ministry of Science and ICT
The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced on the 15th that it has appointed Yoon Hye-on, senior principal researcher at the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI), as the new chair of the Korea Foundation for Women in Science and Technology.
Yoon, the new chair, graduated from the Department of Science Education at Ewha Womans University and received her master’s degree in geology and PhD in geochemistry from Seoul National University. She has been serving at KBSI since 1994. She has been active in the science and technology community in various roles, including president of the Korean Federation of Women’s Science and Technology Associations (KWSE), endowed professor at the National Institute of Science and Technology Human Resources Development (KIRD), and general chair of the committee for establishing the National Science and Technology Basic Plan.
Her awards include the Eungbijang Order of Science and Technology Merit for the promotion of science and technology from the Ministry of Science and ICT (2021), a commendation from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance (2018), the Presidential Commendation for Science and Technology Promotion on the 45th Science Day (2012), and a commendation from the Minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination (2003).
In accordance with Article 20 (Method of Appointment of Executives) of the Articles of Incorporation of the Korea Foundation for Women in Science and Technology and other relevant regulations, she was reviewed and recommended by the Executive Recommendation Committee. Her term of office is three years from the date of appointment.
