Interestingly enought, the least number of refugees is in Latvia, which is (in words at least) probably the most pro Ukraine country in the EU.

Only 52k in FRA? To be honest I was expecting much more ! I see a lot of Ukrainian in my neighborhood – besides they’re always hard worker, respectful and eager to integrate to the community

In yes, the good old “I display absolute data as a choropleth map” r/MapPorn classic.

    4. You should also see how many natives there are in each country, and count in %

    5. ennuithereyet on

It would be interesting to see this as percentage of that country’s population too

    6. Fun fact: France gives 3.5x more tourist visa to Russian citizens (180k a year (2025)) than it has Ukrainian refugees in its country.

Because when the Russians are done committing war crimes in Ukraine, they do need some time to relax at the Côte d’Azur. And who is France not to give them that opportunity?

      Rename the map to EU…

Theres 26K (+148K that entered but its unkown if they got paperwork or moved further) in Serbia and over 4 million in Russia..

Oddly enough, there are quite a lot of Ukrainian refugees in Russia. I didn’t ask around, but it’s probably easier to just move in with relatives than to go to nowhere in Europe and start life from scratch.

Great, we should create a grand army of European Ukrainians to fight back and get their country back. Kids grow up and women can fight too. /s

Ironically Russia should have a pretty large Ukrainian refugee population too, mostly from the pro-Russian minority + people who had no choice otherwise or were deported.

      I have a Ukrainian co-worker from Mykolaiv

    11. How about refugees per capita? 49k refugees in Sweden is not the same as 52k in France.

    12. I’d have thought that the number in Bulgaria would be higher. I’m heard a lot of talks about Ukrainians living along the Black Sea

Edit: I wonder what the numbers for Russia are. I’d presume pretty high

Poland, these are data on immigrants with temporary residence status, plus you have about 300k minors, 779k who started working legally and 58k who simply obtained Polish citizenship.

The colours should be in comparison to local population instead of absolute numbers, that would be more informative on how big a responsibility the countries are carrying. For example, in per capita terms Estonia has significantly more Ukrainian refugees than Germany does, even if you might not get it from seeing this map.

Wanted to add here about the amount in Spain: it’s mostly the type of people who can sustain their living costs without any help from the government (Spain is not providing the same compensations as they do in Germany or other countries). They hardly provide any housing (may be only in the super cheap and rural areas). So basically it’s people who have an income in one way or another. I’d call it “rich Ukrainian refugee summer camp”. There were a lot more in the beginning but most of them left when they realized there is almost no help from the government, so they left to the Eastern Europe.

Some moved or were moved to Russia as well. Both ethnic Russians, Ukrainians and mixed families from the east.

Now make a map by percentage…
The smallest EU countries: the Baltics and Nordics contribute the biggest % of GDP to Ukraine and by % have the most Ukrainian refugees. 🙂

Wow, that is a lot. But it’s good that those people found shelter and safety. When war is finally over, if they want to go back, that is 4+ million people to re build the country.

Why isn’t it stated how many refugees left for Russia And Belarus ?
