Whatever the “war was for” we clearly failed. That’s understood by everyone.
The only good thing I can say about Trump: at least he recognized that fact and folded rather than doubling-down (like, for example, Putin). He’ll spin it as a win, in a way only Trump can. And that will annoy a lot of people. But getting out was the only good option, I think.
It was to distract from the Epstein files and boost Trump’s dismal approval ratings.
Has anyone tried to actually objectively look at what the US gained, without ‘Trump bad’ glasses?
Better question was who encouraged the president, and why.
If attacking Iran was worth the trouble it would have been done decades ago. It’s probably been studied and war-gamed and mulled over more than any other scenario save an invasion of Russia.
It’s a known bad idea, but it was done anyway. Who’s behind it?
Netanyahu told Trump that Iran was a couple bombs away from turning into a Liberal Democracy. He was dumb enough to fall for it.
For the past century, aerial bombardment has proven to be insufficient in propelling a regime change, it is only useful in accelerating armed resistance over the hump in cases like Kosovo or Libya.
Nevertheless, Iran’s Mosaic Doctrine has been made public for awhile. Any regime change would require a war with the entire country because of its setup. It isn’t like Saddam or Assad’s regime in which they hold the country hostage by pinching control over urban centers.
Nothing. It was for literally nothing.
Good for **whom** is the real question.
Distraction from the Epstein files was good for many shady oligarchs.
Trump and his immediate cronies made a fortune by manipulating the markets.
There is a whole new generation of Shia who will grow up with hating the US and Israel, so that new crop of terrorists is good for the mullahs (and Bibi).
The war worked exactly as intended for all those people.
The war was for ultimate leverage over the energy trade when Trump was originally supposed to sit down with Xi in April. Bibi convinced Trump that he could get two birds stoned at once by installing a pro-western regime in Iran at the same time.
This strategy failed and America (wisely) capitulated as oil reserves began to drain to critical levels. All this said, a new day dawning where the US navigates the ME without marching lockstep with Israel is exciting and hopefully restores credibility and influence over the next decade+.
Israel convinced Trump and Hegseth that Iran would be a short easy peasy operation. Hegseth pushed on. Both Trump and Hegseth were still high off the Venezuela operation.
Now Trump has been humiliated. I’m putting my money on Hegseth ending under the bus any day now.
The war was for Israel who duped Trump into agreeing to this in the first place.
