Lebanon: UN welcomes Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire
The United Nations welcomes the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Lebanese movement Hezbollah. This was stated by UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.
“We are, of course, aware of reports suggesting that Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a ceasefire, and we welcome these developments,” Dujarric said during a briefing.
He added that the UN continues to urge the parties to respect existing ceasefire agreements and to pursue dialogue as the only viable path to long-term security and stability.
“UNIFIL”, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, “confirms that its leadership is in constant contact with the parties through the agreed mechanisms”, added Dujarric.
