TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A FSU Health Lifestyle Medicine Clinic nurse practitioner was charged Wednesday, accused of fraudulently obtaining prescription medication through a clinic employee, according to court records.
Lee Barfield, 48, of Bainbridge, was taken into custody on five counts of controlled substance fraud and five counts of falsifying medical records, an arrest affidavit revealed.

She is listed as a nurse practitioner on the clinic’s website.
FSU’s Senior Director of University Communications Amy Farnum-Patronis told WCTV Barfield was placed on administrative leave in April “when we became aware of concerns, and the University is following standard Human Resources processes and procedures to address this matter.”
Farnum-Patronis said the university couldn’t provide additional comment on personnel matters but added, “We remain committed to cooperating with the appropriate authorities and to ensuring continuity of operations and the delivery of high-quality care.”
Her arrest comes after a receptionist at the clinic reported that Barfield repeatedly prescribed pain medications that were not medically necessary, according to investigators with the FSU Police Department.
The court document went on to reveal that the employee told investigators Barfield had instructed her to fill the prescriptions in exchange for promising a job at the USPS with better benefits and pay.
Barfield also allegedly paid the employee for the cost of the pills.
FSU PD wrote in the affidavit that the scheme happened multiple times over several months.
Barfield was booked into the Leon County Detention Facility. Records show she bonded out of jail Friday.
