Hélio Campos, Director of Trade and Investment at AICEP Portugal Global, announced on social media that he visited KRAFTON and met with its investment team. Officials from the AICEP Seoul office also attended the meeting.
Director Campos stated, “We had a meaningful discussion regarding KRAFTON’s strategic vision for games and immersive digital experiences, and shared updates on the development status of key IPs such as PUBG.”
He specifically mentioned the development studio KRAFTON operates in Porto, Portugal, stating, “I was pleased to confirm that the studio is strengthening its presence in Europe by developing original IP.” KRAFTON’s Porto studio is one of the EMEA hubs under PUBG Studios, originally established to develop the tactical shooter ‘Thunder Tier One’.
Director Campos said, “We look forward to creating new connections between KRAFTON and Portugal’s creative and digital ecosystems, and expect various exchanges and partnerships to take place in the coming months.” He added, “This meeting is another positive step in strengthening the relationship between South Korea and Portugal.”
The post also tagged the Portuguese Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP), the Portuguese Business Association (AEP), and the Portuguese Association of Video Game Producers. This is interpreted as a move to broadly connect the Portuguese government with the gaming industry.
AICEP is a public agency responsible for supporting the exports and international expansion of Portuguese companies, as well as attracting domestic and foreign investment, playing a role similar to South Korea’s KOTRA. The fact that a national investment promotion agency directly visited KRAFTON’s investment team is seen as a signal that the Portuguese government is paying close attention to KRAFTON’s potential for investment and expansion in Europe.
