Because it’s very easy to steal.
Probably people steal it in that specific supermarket. It’s not common at all to see gum locked like that, they usually do that for videogames and alcohol.
It’s not comon for this things to be like this, but the reason peobably rely on young people stealing it
If they installed an anti-theft system, it is likely that the reason was to prevent it from being stolen 🤣
Edit:
Theft is not likely.
Gums from the same brand but a few cents cheaper weren’t locked.
It’s spain, no need to look for much logic in it 😄 I think it is just local customs. I saw things like deodorant or razors also locked up like this. In a different shop they keep cosmetics behind a locked glass doors. I am not used to it from central Europe, but it’s the way things are here
They check the amount of losses and after they lock the product. End of story.
some people like to steal a lot, it’s not common to see things so normal locked, they usually do it with games, alcohol and inalambric earpods.
They are obsessed with shoplifting here. In many supermarkets they make you take your backpack off and put it in a locker before entering. Also, if you go into a shop and leave without buying anything they get really weird about it and will sometimes try to search you.
