obligatory “if you want to kill someone do it in a car”
comment.
Wild you can cause a death by dangerous driving, admit it and get no prison time.
“You did something horrific but if we admit cars are incredibly dangerous then we’ll have to legislate massively and that will be political sudoku”

It’s a grave injustice that we have this less serious offence of “causing death by dangerous driving”, when it really should be manslaughter or murder. Why do we put up with this?
I don’t really understand what is gained by throwing a nurse in prison for a mistake.
Like where is the immorality, intent, even recklessness? If she was doing 90 or in a fit of road rage I would understand, but she wasn’t, she missed a 4 second window to see him and pulled into front of him. Isn’t this an obvious consequence of the fact that we travel around in 2000KG death machines seperated by a line on the road? Like we know that if we have X million people driving cars on roads shared with Y cyclists then stuff like this is going to happen Z amount of times. Medical doctors make mistakes, people die, no-one goes to prison. Bring on self driving cars.
I think most (all) driver have, at some point, made a mistake. Most haven’t killed someone while doing it but that is probably more luck than anything.
Funny how the cyclists family who know lots about the case don’t even want a prison sentance, but the people on here who read the headline do.
The motorist also has to live with killing someone for the rest of their life, not saying it justifies the seemingly light sentence but it ain’t nothing
I always wonder whether these drivers even bother to fully stop at the giveway line and look both ways, twice, properly. It seems too common that people just roll slowly through giveways quickly glancing both ways. Way too many impatient dickheads on the road.
