The Police Academy of Montenegro and the Turkish National Police Academy signed a memorandum of understanding on educational and academic cooperation.
The Police Directorate and the Police Academy announced that the institution hosted a return visit to a delegation from the Turkish National Police Academy, during a two-day official visit that “passed in the spirit of friendship, exchange of experiences and discussions on specific aspects of future cooperation.”
They said that the visit was given special significance by the ceremonial signing of the memorandum, and the document was signed by the Director of the Police Academy Nenad Vojinović and the President of the Turkish National Police Academy and President of the International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA) Murat Balci, in the presence of the Ambassador of Turkey to Montenegro Ajda Unlu, as well as representatives of that embassy.
On the first day of the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to learn about the work and capacities of the Police Academy, basic and professional training programs, as well as to attend demonstrations of practical and field training for participants.
On the second day of the visit, a meeting was held with the Director of the Police Administration, Lazar Šćepanović, and his associates, at which they discussed specialist and advanced training, exchange of experiences, and examples of good practice.
Šćepanović emphasized that it is of particular importance that the police profession is based on trust and strong integrity, that it is resilient to future challenges and that it represents a guarantor of the rule of law.
He highlighted the importance of police training in the modern security environment, which is characterized by increasingly complex risks and threats, new forms of crime and accelerated technological development. In this context, he pointed out the importance of continuous improvement of the knowledge, skills and competencies of police officers, as well as the contribution of training to the standardization of police procedures, the quality of work and the efficiency of the police organization, so that police officers are trained and prepared to respond appropriately to security risks and to successfully fight all forms of crime.
“During the meeting, the specific needs of the Police Directorate for certain types of professional and advanced training were expressed, which opened up opportunities for further work on their implementation, as well as for a more intensive exchange of knowledge and experiences with Turkish partners,” the statement reads.
The Police Directorate and the Police Academy emphasize that the two-day visit confirmed the mutual willingness to continue cooperation through concrete training, exchange of knowledge and experiences, and other activities of mutual interest.
They said that the signed memorandum thus represents more than an institutional document and that it is the basis for concrete activities aimed at improving the knowledge, skills, and professional capacities of future and current police officers.
“We thank the delegation of the Turkish National Police Academy, the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey and the Police Directorate of Montenegro for their support, openness and willingness to continue cooperation,” the statement reads.
