Gardaí described the investigation as intense and very active, with multiple searches carried out across a number of premises in Waterford city last night, including at the homes of two significant criminal figures suspected of being heavily involved in drugs and drug debt intimidation.

They seized cars and electronic devices which are now being forensically examined but, so far, no arrests have been made.

      >Gardaí said there are people in the community who know the person or people who carried out the arson attack

Presumably the person who owes the debt knows exactly who it is.

Is it not absolutely mental that a drug gang has just wiped out a family and people aren’t up in arms about it? How are there not more community protests and Gardai swarming the areas cracking down on these scumbags?

    4. Whatever the story it’s worth mentioning nobody deserves what happened to this family. Someone connected to them being potentially involved with shady people doesn’t change the brutality of what happened.

    5. A local lad in my old town years ago about 17 from what was said to me owed a fuck load of money to some big guys. Young lad couldn’t pay his bill, one night they petrol bombed his house, he jumped ship to somewhere in Europe, they then petrol bombed the house again a second time and from what I was told his dad had to pay up or they were going to get killed, what I was also told was the second petrol bomb attack was supposed to harm or kill whoever was in the house. These guys are ruthless and what’s worse and nobody talks about is teenagers seem to be the ones who are getting crazy bills on their head. Not saying this was the case here but what a tragedy altogether, scary.

    6. Maybe more was done prior, but doesn’t seem like it, as this family had been targeted multiple times including up to a few weeks ago.

So this family didnt even owe the debt? They were just very unfortunate associates of someone who did?

Before anyone jumps on me, I am not at all saying it’s okay to do such things to someone for owing money at all. But there is something especially sinister about a family being brutally wiped out when they had absolutely no involvement with any of it to begin with.

That is terrifying. I can’t stand to think of what they went through.

    8. Such a pity that a family has to be murdered in such horrific circumstances for the investigation to become intense and very active. There are stories of houses and cars being firebombed up and down the length and breadth of Ireland for years and nothing is done…nothing.

    9. I hope the guards catch them, I’m confident they will. How could anyone live with themselves after doing that.

Absolute tragic and something needs to happen as it’s ongoing nationwide

It’s a stupid business model. They sure as shit ain’t getting their money now

If you buy illegal drugs, you contribute to this stuff. Doesn’t matter if it should be legal or not, buying it currently funds organised crime.

And the idiot who threw the petrol bomb probably owed money too. Id say he was offered money taken off his bill to do it .

A lot more common than you’d realise, I personally know of one family who were harassed and threatened by dealers over a son’s come debt that grew from a couple of grand to more than twenty. They ended up paying a good chunk of it just to keep those scrotes from the front door. They had involved the guards but very little they could do under the circumstances outside of keeping en eye on the house.

    14. Obviously they know very well who wants the money back. Why is the pick not arrested ans/or still breathing?

    15. The son who has done interviews about the petrol bombing is John (the man pictured above interviewed by RTE) and he is not the one who owes the debt. There’s 14 children in the family altogether, 10 with his first wife and 4 with his second wife.

    16. So they threw a petrol bomb at his ex wife’s house, them threw another petrol bomb his family home. He told the gardai and his local politician that he was in danger. He asked to be moved away from the community. The gang threw another petrol bomb at his house that killed him and family. I’m surprised nobody is asking the gardai any hard questions on what’s going on in that community.

I know a family in my town who went bankrupt paying off their son’s drug debt. Bailed him out of a 20k plus debt after threats on his and their lives. The parents had to take out loans to pay it all. They eventually split up due to the stress of it all. The father washed his hands of the son altogether after it While the son is living with his mother now snorting coke every single weekend still bleeding her dry.

My brother in law is a big time dealer, we’ve completely cut ties with him as we’re so scared if he ever gets locked up who will come looking for us for the money he owes. Drugs are ruining lives in this country and as far as I can see the government couldn’t be bothered funding the resources needed to help Gardai fight drug crime, I’ve watched him deal for 15 years now and not a day has he spent locked up.

Why is he saying its taken the life of 5 family members? It’s being reported 4 died. RIP.

I thought i saw a report that it was their car that was petrol bombed and then the house went up.
      Is this true?
Or was the house itself petrol bombed?
