CHICAGO (WLS) — A group of people broke into several Lincoln Park businesses early Tuesday morning, Chicago police said.

A group of male suspects got out of a white vehicle and broke the glass doors and windows of businesses in the 2400- and 2500-blocks of North Clark Street just before 4 a.m., police said.

    Area Three detectives are investigating.

Alderman Timmy Knudsen, of the 43rd Ward, said in a message to residents that the businesses were between Fullerton Parkway and Deming Place, and police have placed the corridor under special attention.

“These burglaries are senseless crimes. Most businesses don’t keep cash on site, and break-ins leave local owners with costly repairs and timely clean up. As I continue to engage CPD leadership for a resolution to these crimes, I will keep pressing for long-term solutions, including a sustained patrol on Clark Street while also investing in public safety infrastructure like public observation devices (POD cameras) where gaps in coverage are identified. My office will also work with the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce and our Special Service Area on additional, creative ways to protect the corridor,” Knudsen said. “It is no secret how much focus our office has put into revitalizing Clark Street over the past few years. Vacant storefronts are filling almost immediately, healthy development and new housing are arriving, and the corridor is strong. This progress is in large part thanks to the neighbors, local businesses, and Chicagoans who have invested in our neighborhood and worked alongside our office to move it forward. I remain committed to building on that partnership. This week, I ask neighbors to continue to show up for Clark: grab coffee, have dinner, shop local.”
