Poland plans to send Ukraine two MiG-29 fighter jets, but one is only fit for spare parts. The aid package also includes artillery rounds and Piorun missiles.

Poland plans to transfer two additional MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, with the delivery expected in the near future. Lieutenant General Dariusz Lukowski, director of the Defense Strategy and Planning Department at Poland’s Ministry of National Defense, told Rzeczpospolita that Warsaw has already approved the transfer.

However, the aircraft’s technical condition raises serious questions about their suitability for combat. According to the newspaper, one MiG-29 has completely exhausted its service life and can only be dismantled for spare parts. The second fighter remains capable of flying, although its combat readiness has not been confirmed.

The planned military aid package also includes 152 mm and 155 mm artillery ammunition, rounds for the six-barrel cannons mounted on F-16 fighter jets, and short-range Piorun surface-to-air missiles manufactured by the Polish company Mesko.

Poland’s Defense Ministry confirmed that another military assistance package for Kiev is being prepared but declined to disclose its contents.

Earlier, Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasily Bodnar stated that the MiG-29 fighters Warsaw intends to supply cannot be operated in their current technical condition. Poland previously delivered 14 MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine between 2022 and 2023, with the fighters reportedly in varying states of wear.
