Wasn’t he only recently elected? What a short honeymoon. What happened?
They went for a nandos and wanted more than one coke.
Unfortunately, most of rest of UK isn’t aware of what’s happening in Wales and NI. So here’s a quick summary:
– Vaughn Gething, the current First Minister, accepted £200,000 in donations from Dauson Environmental, owned by David John Neal, during the Welsh Labour leadership contest in March, following then-First Minister Mark Drakeford’s resignation.
– Gething won narrowly and became Welsh First Minister and the first black leader of any European nation.
– Prior to this, David John Neal was loaned £400,000 by Welsh Government owned bank. The bank is under the control of Economy’s Minister, Vaughn Gething at the time.
– David John Neal was given a suspended sentence in 2013 for illegally dumping waste and again in 2017 for not clearing it up. He also has ongoing criminal probes and the donation might have been to secure his future.
– No rules were apparently broken.
– Still left over money from this donation after the leadership contest was apparently even refused by UK Labour.
– On D-Day Getthing had to be in Wales, and lost a vote of confidence in the Senedd (official name for Welsh Parliament).
– Gething refused to resign citing 2 Labour members couldn’t vote because of absence. Labour holds 30 of 60 seats in Senedd, and rules don’t require him to resign.
– Some of Gething’s WhatsApp messages screenshot during covid leaked. In it he acknowledged deleting messages incase it would be revealed during a Freedom of Information request in the future.
– During UK Covid Inquiry, Gething concealed the fact that he deliberately deleted records of conversations with other ministers.
– Gething accused his senior minister Hannah Blythyn for leaking messages and sacked her without any evidence or giving her a chance to defend.
– The website who leaked the messages came out and said Hannah Blythyn is not their source.
I may have missed stuff that has happened after and in the last 2 weeks. So someone please fill me in.
## **Fast forward to today- Vaughan Gething Resigns**.
He should leave. Just because it’s labour doest mean it good governance.
We went from most diverse leadership to old white dudes at the wheel pretty bloody sharpish.
Gething, Yousaf, Sunak … They’ve only gone and Trussed it all up.

He was clearly caught red-handed. I can’t believe this corruption scandal is not more discussed in the press and that no criminal activity seemingly took place. Yet the SNP troubles were all over the papers. It’s so utterly unprecedented that a £200k donation for an internal labour leadership contest was made to begin with…
Wonder what this company’s auditor findings will be. I bet more will be uncovered leading to formal investigation.

I wonder if Starmer has leaned on him/other MSs to force him out. He probably wanted to avoid it happening during the election but now he’s in, he really doesn’t want an ongoing corruption scandal involving a relatively senior Labour figure when he’s promised to return standards to public life.
