Does this not have an element of hindsight to it? Of course it would’ve been a good investment of resources because covid actually happened.
There’s countless events that could happen at a time unknown that we could be better prepared for now, but is preparing for them a good use of our resources?
“Stack the bodies high” they chose to let it rip, fuckin tories are murderers
Who would’ve thought that consistently defunding or not raising funding to at or above inflation would lead to a decline in civic defenses and public services?
Who?
Who could’ve thought of that?
I’m not interested in moaning about the “right” pandemic. That’s just hindsight bollocks.
What is clear is we need an agile plan for the future where the government can quickly adapt and respond to the challenges posed.
For example. It’s highly likely that pandemics will be airborne if they hurt us due to our sanitation. Can we risk rate and develop a plan next time for PPE beyond the panic that caused such waste this time.
I know the team that did the PPE. They’re civil servant. They’re not corrupt but they were told go buy everything because we had to compete with the rest of Europe.
Next time we need a way of scaling quickly and collaboratively with our partners.
>The report says pandemic planning was undermined by groupthink. The scientific advice received by ministers was too narrowly focused and there was too little consideration to the socio-economic impacts.
>And the report said part of the blame must lie with groupthink by scientists and too little challenge by ministers.
So those of us who were shouted down for asking about the impact policies would have on people were right to question it, and the Government at the time should have done.
It was also stated they were too busy preparing for Brexit
It’s interesting that this report came out after the General Election. Another example of Conservative incompetence might have reduced still further the number of seats that they won.
Too much time on Brexit and not enough on public health hollowed out by Tory austerity!
Yes sounds correct!,
We should have let it rip thru, weed out the weak, makes the herd stronger overall, that’s what viruses do in nature. Now we got problems coming out of our ears, but good ol’ grandma and grandpa got an extra 2 years of life.
Sounds far to generous to the government to me. Even as someone not medically trained I knew at the time many of their decisions were stupid. Eat out to help out? Great idea, we had to close the kitchen because 90% of the staff got covid.
