It has got to the point where we have been told to challenge any request for more than one unit of O- for patients with a haemoglobin over 70. I am only half joking when I say you know this is serious when biomedical scientists are allowed to have authority over doctors.

    2. That’s exactly what an organisation run by vampires would say….

On a serious note, donating blood is dead simple and easy to do and can help save lives, it’s 100% worth doing.

I’d like to donate blood but I’m 99% sure that I would feint if I did. Any time there’s an extended conversation about blood you’ll quickly see the colour drain from my face.

It’s a shame because I’m fully aware of how needed it is but I just don’t think I’d have it in me.

One donation away from twenty pints and I got freaking cancer. I’m well, but they won’t take my blood again. Which is sad because my garden mozzies say I’m tasty.

    5. Worth mentioning they can tell you what blood type you are when you register as well
Seeing how many people don’t actually seem to know

Just chucking this out there, but interestingly in spite of O neg being much sought after due to its “universal” nature, its not the rarest blood type in UK, AB negative is.

I keep getting texts saying “We urgently need your blood type” but they’ve cancelled my last two appointments last minute. I was supposed to donate yesterday.

      Please take my blood!

    7. Wonder if this is anything to do with switching from walk ins to appointment only.

I used to do it when I was out and about and had a spare 30 mins but now I need to book an appointment days in advance

I remember they used to have a tracker on their site that said if nobody donated this is how quick we’ll run out of each type.

I’ve got an uncommon type (B-) and they never had more than two days stock of mine, and that was pre COVID I remember looking at that data

Booked in to give next month. It’s a good feeling
