Absolutely. But for this to happen we must peel away the layers and layers of entrenched disbelief and skepticism from those who don’t understand the illness fully. That goes double for the medical community, who’ve been captured by the notion it is “all in the mind” or “has a strong psychological component” in a causative sense.

I can’t see it happening. There’s been a huge shortfall of funding for research after leaving the EU and naturally the Tories didn’t plug the gap, it did massive damage to various branches of science.
There are a lot of worthy causes but not enough money in the pot. SMEs are struggling also, the VCs that they rely on just want quick profits but research isn’t always profitable. We’ve rejoined the horizon programme so things will improve in the next couple of years but we won’t be the scientific powerhouse we once were.
Best hope for ME research is probably grants from charitable organisations.
