The comedian was unveiled on ITV’s This Morning show as the first official contestant for the 2024 series, and said: “This is literally the worst-kept secret there has ever been in British television.”
It had been widely reported that the 47-year-old would be joining the line-up.
He said: “I think it’s been out there; it’s been exhausting keeping a secret everyone seems to know.”
Asked how he feels about taking part, he said: “Apprehensive, massively apprehensive.
“I don’t know what I’m getting myself into. I’ve never watched it, obviously. It’s just some music.”
He added: “I don’t dance; I have never danced. I grew up with headbanging and mosh pits.”
At least he won’t be able to see who is kicking him…

I love him, he’s one of the funniest stand ups going. If you don’t know him, check out some of his clips from Would I Lie To You?

I don’t watch strictly but I’m aware of it as background noise as my partner is a little obsessed with it, but I bloody love Chris McCausland and I’ll watch it (well, his bits of it) for as long as he’s on.
Being blind is going to be particularly difficult for him in this environment and I sincerely hope he can come away with a good experience from this.
On a lighter note, if any more of the professionals get a bit too “hands-on” this year, the audience won’t be the only ones blindsided by it 🙂

Hopefully none of the dancers try anything with the increased level of scrutiny after the scandal broke, but I definitely worry that this could be quite a hostile environment for a blind competitor with little prior experience…

Well he won’t be able to report any shenanigans!
Show us where she pushed you?
Did you see her do this?

He’s a really fun guy so hope he does well! Albeit I’m also very curious as to the practial aspects of how you change training to make it accessible as ballroom is very exact about positions and placement, wonder who they’ll partner him with.

He is a very good comedian.
However, I don’t want him on Strictly, because I think the show should end. Or at the very least have a different format, say a weekly winner and then a ‘winner of the winners’ show.

I was hoping Charlotte Dujardin would be added to even the playing field a bit.

Here we go – the annual tedious drip-drip of Strictly contestant reveals over the course of August, followed by a further 3 months of fawning coverage.
