      It looks like branches from each trunk grafted together. Not something you see everyday!

    2. It looks like 2 or 3 trees fused together in a process called inosculation.

      Taken from Wikipedia : “branches first grow separately in proximity to each other until they touch. At this point, the bark on the touching surfaces is gradually abraded away as the trees move in the wind. Once the [cambium](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vascular_cambium) of two trees touches, they sometimes self-graft and grow together as they expand in diameter.”

      There’s a couple of trees just like this near my house – connected by a thick branch that sticks out perfectly perpendicular to both trees. It’s just wide enough to sit on. Always wondered how it happened

      Inappropriate touching by one tree to another. Call the tree’s HR department.
