Rookie error – she should have followed Luke “the Nuke” Akehurst’s example and scrubbed her Twitter account clean of all racist and problematic content

    2. Original_Success3895 on

MPs shouldn’t be on social media full stop.

It opens them up to so many “gotchas” and direct links to abuse from members of the public.

Quite a lot of elected representatives keep off social media and will only deal with constituents through email or post as a matter of principle.

This is a much fairer system because a) everything is stored as a matter of public record and b) it doesn’t give all their time/oxygen to addressing the permanently online.

We’ve seen the damage platforms like Twitter do to some MPs perceptions of reality (particularly right wing ones) and frankly it is polarising our politics in very damaging ways.

    3. Remember when Faiza Shaheen was kicked out for ‘problematic liking of tweets’ and they wanted the highest quality candidates? 🤣

It’s almost like it was all a ruse to fill the party undemocratically with their own factional allies.

      >In one post, Edwards wrote: “I want these f****** Estonian retards out of my flat now!”

What the fuck lmao, how is an apology gonna fix that

    5. NoLove_NoHope on

Not that racist, or otherwise bigoted comments, should be hidden, but if I got any sort of fame or notoriety I would just delete my social media pages and make new ones.

    6. AtillaThePundit on

AND not only this but she expects the cleaners to CLEAN!! she’s a fucking monster

    7. Longjumping-Buy-4736 on

I can’t believe someone who enters politics has not thought about cleaning up/deleting old social media profilss. I’ve done that when entering the professional world in a non public and I and generally quite thick.

    8. tom-goddamn-bombadil on

I misread it as Etonians and I was like DON’T YOU DARE TAKE THAT BACK. Extremely disappointed:(

    9. MPs should have the common sense to delete all previous social media posts before they are elected or even before they run. There are now companies that will do this for them so they don’t have to spend 5 years doing it manually. Weirdly enough though, can’t say I’ve ever posted anything racist, even ’15 years ago when I was young’.

    10. Seems a bit over the top to be honest. She wrote the tweets a decade ago. The Estonians tweet isn’t a great look but it’s not exactly horrendous. Elbowing a drunk guy in the ribs when they walk into you intentionally, especially as a woman isn’t particularly awful, and the last one is just saying that the cleaners are awful, which if they’re not cleaning coffee stains from desks isn’t bad either.

    11. DoranTheRhythmStick on

Apparently she also Tweeted “Are the cleaners on recess too? My desk has so many coffee rings it looks like Saturn.”

Which, like… Use a fucking coaster. Seriously, unless the cleaners snuck in and left coffee cups on your desk that’s on you. So racist tweets, bad office manners with hints of classism, and doesn’t understand planetary rings.

Bloody stupid not to scrub your social media when you enter politics, regardless of if it was nearly fifteen years ago or not she should have been smart enough to A) not be racist and B) not leave this abuse up there.

    12. NeverGonnaGiveMewUp on

Nice one Elon. Good to call out this awful series of tweets.

Now do 45. Go on. No?

    13. BigBeanMarketing on

She also joked about William Hague’s wife miscarrying their child, and that it “didn’t prove he wasn’t gay.”

      I don’t think she’s a very nice person.

    14. MaterialLet5854 on

Liberals are the most scum, pretend to be righteous but degenerates underneath any logical person would despise them

    15. Amazing that they have ignored her using the r-slur in the title of the article. Sensational journalism

    16. Flashy_Fault_3404 on

So is something going to be done about this?

Faiza Shaheen liked a Daily Show tweet and was deselected

Surely writing a tweet like this has some sort of consequence?

    17. Big_Red_Machine_1917 on

Vote against child poverty and you get booted out of the Parliamentary Labour Party.

Spew racist nonsense online and a disingenuous apology letter is enough for all to be forgiven.

    18. IhateALLmushrooms on

15 years ago?!! She was not in the office at the time – this its absolutely ridiculous!

What’s next should she apologise for shifting the bed when she was 5 months old? 15 years is not even remotely relevant! Media is going insane.

Maybe if politicians would actually do some work instead of she-he said bullshit we’d all be living in a nicer country.

    19. Millenium_Fullcan on

It was a typo. She meant f***ing ETONIANS..
      That’s a sentiment I can get behind.

    20. I’m surprised that today, given all that is out there about how social media never goes away, people aspiring for a high public profile never think to go back through ALL their socials and delete everything that might be seen as iffy. Lord knows I’ve posted comments that haven’t aged well, but then I’m not looking for fame or power.

    21. I kept reading this as Etonians and didn’t know what all the fuss was about lol

    22. I just don’t understand what drives people in their emotional moments to think their best option for catharsis is to pop on the internet and type up a tweet or a facebook post. If I really need to offload I might ask a mate to meet me down the pub or I’ll call my mum, or something.

    23. That bigoted SNP MP who was recently booted out was another example. These people just mask their bigotry and racism when they become MPs. It’s not vanished no matter how they pretend and no matter how their sycophants on here try to paint it as teenager pranks.

    24. Why cancel someone over an old tweet lmao. Anyone wanting this is obviously a neurotic cunt.

    25. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone

I’m sure 80% of us would be fucked if we had tweets from 15 years ago leaked

If she has apologised and has shown no signs that she still believes this we should move on

Getting hung up on this sort of things discourages normal people who have a rocky pasts from getting involved in politics

    26. Quiet-Wolverine-8275 on

This is terribly upsetting for Estonians, not the MPs comment but commenters demoting Estonia to some backwater hole that can only be punched down upon.

    27. YesIBlockedYou on

Absolute plonker, but it’s no coincidence that this only gets dragged up now, not 15 years ago when the tweet was made.

Valuable lesson learned though, don’t post shit on the internet if you plan to have a career in politics one day.

    28. Hot_Price_2808 on

I have met her, She is quite rude but this was 15 years ago. Very different culture and 15 YEARS AGO. We don’t know the context and we have all said stupid things on Social Media at some point.

    29. Daveindenmark on

I bet she doesn’t get prosecuted or punished severely. One rule for them etc

    30. What a b###h..I am not apologising 😀

Such behaviour makes me laugh, especially by hypocrites politicians who pretend to be so morally pristine, up there to rule the nation, can say one thing and when caught “apologise” thinking they are sorted.

If a person does something – it’s done, unless they have mental disorder, they know what they did. So to apologise after for that, it’s just cry pathetic and means ZERO to me, hope to others too.

    31. Worried_Math6936 on

We aren’t the same people we were 10 years ago, we won’t be the same people 10 years from now.

I don’t think she should resign over it as some are calling out for

    32. Altruistic_Horse_678 on

Why wasn’t this found during the election, but reforms shitty comments were?
