    1. I think that would be the bigger thing to do, but feel like that just gives into his whole shtick.

He’s a bellend but it won’t even impact him at this point

    2. Strange-Owl-2097 on

There’s quite a lot of hate and calls for violence on Twitter. There was even that MP who said he was going to break someone’s legs and in another said he’d push someone under a train. Disgusting stuff. Whatever happened to that person?

    3. Dry_Frosting_9028 on

X is such a hate-filled platform full of mis-information and couch surfers out to drag people down. That said, Reddit can be pretty nasty too…

    4. jeremybeadleshand on

“Other MPs who still use X have begun examining alternatives, including Threads, which is owned by Facebook’s parent company, Meta, and the open-source platform Bluesky.”

Facebook is of course totally free from misinformation

    5. I don’t know why they would have twitter. At this point the platform is just a place where the craziest nonsense gets talked about as if it is important.

I’d think it important for MPs NOT to spend time there. It screws you up.

    6. Dry_Construction4939 on

People should just delete their Twitter account for health and sanity tbh, it’s become such a cesspit that the harm outweighs the benefits.

It’s a disappointing headline. Only one person quit.

[Samantha Niblett](https://x.com/samanthaniblet4) still live. Noah Law ‘deactivated’ her account. [Yeah sure ‘quitting’](https://media.tenor.com/4ygrmLYCswoAAAAM/friends-ross.gif)

Jess Phillips is ‘scaling back’. A government minister posts less. Josh Simons is looking at an alternative. Jo Platt is the only MP mentioned who has quit…. *that was before the election though.*

I wonder if any, or none, actually do quit.

    8. Cute_Kale5800 on

They’re quitting because every comment under them is ratio’ing them and their lies.

    9. Pheasant_Plucker84 on

Funny how they won’t quite Isreal even though what they’re doing is fuelled by hate.

    10. I can see no way that removing non-right wing voices on an incredibly popular website could possibly go wrong.

    11. joeschmoagogo on

Twitter is not required not necessary for politicians, or anyone for that matter. It just invites abuse.

    12. It’s a tough one I think. Because on the one hand Elon Musk is 100% engages in far-right rhetoric and has actively changed the platform to elevate far-right voices. But on the other hand Twitter is still a major social media platform, and if progressive voices leave it you’re only further handing it to the terminally online fascists.

    13. Cold-Minute-6764 on

It’s like the information in the London Tube: “we will not tolerate hate crime” just the addition: “except against whites” is missing🤣

    14. somethingdarkside45 on

It’s not X that’s the problem. It’s social media in general. It gives anyone essentially unfettered access to anyone. If anyone thinks it’s just X, it’s because they’re jumping on the Elon hate train. But *every* social media company has blood on its hands.

X, Facebook, Reddit, Tik-Tok, Snapchat, YouTube…all contain silly amounts of bots, bad faith actors, racists and other ideologically possessed inviduals looking to sew division and confusion. Not to mention the insane levels of creeps there are who have unchecked access vulnerable people.

It’s interesting how we know what facilitates all of this divisive stuff, but collectively we as a civilisation don’t do anything to actually address it. Time and time again the dangers of social media are presented to us. And no one says anything. They point fingers at figureheads, but don’t provide solutions.

And yes the irony is not lost on me that I’m posting this on reddit lol.

    15. I don’t get why people are trying to rehabilitate twitter as ‘just as bad’ as any social media. logged in last week, immediately reported 14 posts (all in the replies or qrts of people who were recommended to me) for very obviously bannable stuff: swastikas, ‘6 million wasn’t enough’, ‘when the time comes you’ll be put in a mass grave with those muslims you love’, type stuff. only 4 of those reports have so far been acted on

    16. Not sure what the fuss is about with Musk. If suggesting civil war is imminent is guilty of inciting riots in the UK then…

Let’s have a little balance and show some reason, shall we? This is very petty.

Now I despise Donald Trump but the threats of what was to come from Labour MPs were pretty similar.

Richard Burgon, who accused Trump of leading the UK into a War with Iran, that didn’t happen, on national Television. How’s that any different?

Fabian Hamilton, told the entire nation that Donald Trump’s threat to pull out of the treaty to pull Nuclear Weapons had just made Nuclear War imminent…

Emily Thornberry boycotted Trump’s UK visit and encouraged a mass protests against him. This eventually led to clashes with the police as pro Trump supporters turned out in retaliation. She also suggested a President of USA should be banned from the UK.

Clive Lewis, rather than blame Musk or disinformation and speculation recently, has blamed an entire nation of Israel and made them accountable for the inciting protests.

Countless Labour MPs encouraged protest that led to arrests and violence over Palestine/Israel, that also resulted in death threats against other MP’s since the recent troubles began.

A labour councillor Ricky Jones said recently protesters need to have their throats cut.

We could go on and on with the same kind of speculation, if not worse that can be perceived as inciting hatred and violence.

    17. This is like 2016 all over again, have we learnt nothing ffs?

Someone commits a crime? Arrest them

Someone is a cunt? Block them

Someone spreads misinformation? That is their rights, ignore them

    18. ThatGuyMaulicious on

Its no longer a safe echo chamber for left wing people… Who would’ve thought Labour running away from more conversations? Maybe they should all migrate to Reddit lmao.

    19. Guess what country musk will not be investing in, especially whilst labour are in charge.

    20. LettuceShot9079 on

Nothing of value is lost. Liberals always hate it when other people have opinions.

    21. Twitter has always been an awful place, even before Musk it was full of hate and disinformation.

The day I deleted my account was a huge positive for my mental health.

With musk also locking those out without an account, it’s prevented me from dipping my toes into the insanity.

    22. Sure but whether we like it or not X is one of the biggest platforms for that kind of messaging. Do I use it? Fuck off do I, I’d rather go to Blackpool for a two week holiday.

    23. I deleted it a couple of weeks ago after being on it for a very long time and I haven’t missed it yet. Sometimes it is hard to accept that a site you frequent often has changed dramatically for the worst but that is the reality. The funny replies to tweets are buried now for blue tick engagement farming, lots of politically charged content appears on your feed. Reddit has its own issues but it is not nearly as bad as Twitter’s situation.

    24. I feel like if you do this you are just surrendering the battleground and letting it get worse.

    25. Strange-Passenger773 on

Anyone that didn’t delete their account the moment Elon the Dong took it over is insane. It was obviously going to take a nosedive.
