200 years ago, Russia lost more than that on a single day in Borodino and they barely changed their strategy one bit. Barely affected the ultimate outcome of the war either.
Russia isn’t going to be defeated with attrition tactics. They can afford to lose orders of magnitude more.

Who knows death toll in Ukraine? I guess it’s comparable. But people don’t talk about it.

Wow, just gotta say that’s a great, informational article. The satellite picture of the cemetery is pretty crazy.
50k dead minimum for Russia and 2 out of 5 weren’t even soldiers before this started. What a waste.

That is what I mean. Ukraine at its best (with weapons) ran ratio between 1:3 to 1:7 to the killed or injured Russians. Given enough support Ukraine can actually win this thing in the war of attrition.

Burning through your peasants in a war you should be winning, but aren’t, is a very Russian vibe.

This is an interesting conflict. Advanced weapons are finite, and in the scheme if things have limited effectiveness due to cost and industrial outputs required to produce. I guess future conflicts will rely on artillery shells and primitive drones.

Extraordinarily conservative estimate there.

That’s rookie numbers! it needs to be at least… three times that big!
What is this, war casualties for ants?

The Russians had no choice at Rzhev. This was optional; their government’s choice.Â

For scale, that’s about the same number of American soldiers that died in the Vietnam War.

No big deal he has another 115,000 ready for the meat grinder.

50k Russian dead soldiers is a clear undercount.
This article says:
> Volunteers working with the BBC and Mediazona have been counting new military graves in 70 cemeteries across Russia since the war started.
The 50k figure includes *only* graves of bodies returned to Russia. It does not include Russian bodies buried in Ukraine, or cremated, or simply missing in action.
Nor does the 50k figure include militias in Donbas & elsewhere, fighting on the Russian side.

Those are rookie numbers. We gotta up those numbers.

I would have thought Russia has lost a lot more than 50k

War is so fucking brutal
That’s not really that high a number.
