Submission statement: how will AIs change warfare?
Right now a dictator is limited by the obedience of its soldiers. If asked to open fire on their fellow citizens, many times soldiers will refuse or defect and sometimes the military will even stage a coup. This is an important power limitation for dictators. How would that change if most of the military is AIs?
Conversely, what if we lose control of the AIs? Losing control over chatbots seems a lot less worrying than losing control over militarized AIs.
On the other hand, there could be a race to the bottom here, where militaries can’t afford to not use militarized AIs if other countries are.
How do we get out of tragedies of the commons? How do we stop a race to the bottom with militarized AIs?
