    1. Mississippi became an awful place because the people that settled there slaughtered the native population and replaced them with slaves. They then fought a war over their right to continue to have slaves and when they lost they resorted to oppression and terror to keep those former slaves as a permanent underclass. To this day not much has changed. I know because my family comes from there. I don’t think this map had much at all to do with making Mississippi what is is today.
