Exploding pagers in Lebanon open Pandora’s box for distributed attacks

Taking Israel/Lebanon/Gaza politics out of the equation and just looking at the precedent, this opinion piece suggests the exploding pagers and walkie-talkies represent a concerning escalation in technological warfare. Targeted attacks against individuals using explosives in personal devices have been done before, but mass attacks like this have not and the Lebanon bombings served as a demonstration of their ability to fly under the radar. Of particular concern is the potential for homegrown terrorists to infiltrate a position giving them access to personal electronics, or authoritarian governments using such a tactic as part of a coup against political opposition.
