LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — When ABC13’s Mark Spain was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, the news was met with an outpouring of support from the community.

Thousands of people have voiced prayers and encouragement for Mark through social media, and our station has received dozens of calls, messages, and cards for Mark.

Last week, our team here at WSET started wearing purple. Purple, one of Mark’s favorite colors, is also the color representing pancreatic cancer.

On Tuesday, December 17, we’re inviting everyone in the community to participate in a Purple Out day for Mark.

Let’s make a sea of purple! We’re inviting all news colleagues across the area, businesses, and anyone else in the community to wear purple to show Mark and his family that we’re standing with them.

If you take photos wearing purple, we would love to see them! You can send those photos to our Chime In page HERE.

If you’re looking for another way to help Mark and his family out, they’re accepting donations, planning to use the funds where they’re most needed in the days ahead.

You can donate to that GoFundMe HERE.

We are all in this with Mark so he can remain #SpainStrong.
