    1. They are the ones with the power to tell the producers they will no longer buy caged hen products.

Hopefully this cones into force and extends to both meat and egg priduction. Wonder if they’ll also back a ban on indoor bred pork. With all the available farmland, there isn’t an excuse for it.

    3. Sorry to be such a negative nelly, I still support the idea, but what difference will it really make? Ban cages for hens and they’ll just be replaced with ‘open air barred hen storage device’ or ‘steel single occupancy hen house with safety walls and roof’. Just like the current ‘free range’ hens rammed 12 birds to a square meter and an open window at the other side of a barn.

Basically, the regulation of free range, cageless, etc needs to be much stronger before any kind of cage ban would be beneficial. Tighter regs, more inspections, stronger fines. All of these will improve hens lives more than a cage ban right now.

Caged hens are cheaper though? Are they going to keep the prices low or are we going to end up paying more with the whole “but at least you know it’s better for the animals”

Nah fuck that, I prefer cheap over holier than thou

    5. Meat Chickens would cost about twenty quid or so a go if they led a good life. It’s not just the conditions it’s the breeding that’s awful modern day hybrids will put weight on so fast they will end up lame if not slaughtered by 12 weeks or so.
